NILE - Norwich Institute for Language Education

NILE is the Norwich Institute for Language Education. NILE was established in 1995 by directors with extensive experience both of ELT worldwide and of the management of organisations dedicated to meeting the needs of clients requiring services of the highest standards. NILE has an Advisory Board which includes ELT professionals with worldwide reputations, including a recent past-president of TESOL.

NILE is based in Norwich, the capital of East Anglia, which lies some 100 miles to the north-east of London, where we have our administrative base and teaching centres both in the heart of the city and in the University of East Anglia. In summer we also run courses in Trinity College in Dublin.

NILE was set up as a specialist teacher development institute, to provide courses of the highest quality for teachers from all over the world, but has now extended its range of work to cover the following main areas:

UCLES examination courses: IELTS, BEC and FCE
Pre-sessional courses for intending UK university students
Pre-university English Language Foundation (ELF) courses
Professional development programmes for EL teachers and trainers
Modular MA courses for ELT professionals (in collaboration with Leeds Metropolitan University)

Short courses, seminars and workshops worldwide
One-to-one and executive language training

NILE has already grown to become the biggest single provider of professional development courses for EL teachers and trainers in Europe. We were the first institute to be accredited by the British Council for the provision of teachers’ courses, and all these courses have been recognised as meeting the standards for inclusion in the Comenius catalogue and qualifying for funding support. We are members of ARELS English in Britain. We are an official examination centre for Cambridge exams. We are also one of the very few private UK organisations which has been accredited to run courses offering qualifications up to Masters level.

Between 1995 and 2002 we have run hundreds of courses for thousands of participants from over 40 different countries. These courses have been both of the scheduled open-enrolment type, for individuals from anywhere in the world, and the closed-group, tailor-made variety, specially designed for education ministries and companies. We intend to continue the NILE success story by offering new programmes both to meet and to stimulate new demand.
