Formerly part of the Education Department of Devon County Council and an independent organisation since 1998, International Projects Centre provides English language and skill development for people of all ages, abilities and nationalities.

Accommodation, which includes bed, breakfast,
a packed lunch, an evening meal and laundry, is with
carefully selected host families visited regularly by our
Accommodation Officer and screened by Social
Services to ascertain their suitability to host visitors.
All participants can choose to be in a single room, or
in a shared room with a named friend.

All course participants are provided by IPC with a bus pass for free travel on local transport: a further opportunity to gain confidence in an English speaking environment.

Our courses include a balance of classroom tuition with well qualified and experienced tutors, and outings to places of interest in the company of our expert guides. Students can also participate in a variety of sporting activities including golf, tennis, bowling, canoeing, horse riding on Dartmoor.

We offer:

Teacher development – participants from the EU or applicant EU countries can apply for funding for these courses through the Comenius 2.2 project. . We can advise and support participants in their applications for grants.
All courses include personal language development and practical ideas to use in the classroom.
Courses for teachers 2004/2005 are:
• Developing Oral Fluency in the English Language Classroom (for primary or secondary teachers of English)
• British Institutions, Language and Culture
• Practical Ideas for the Teaching of Literature
• English as a Working Language (for teachers of subjects other than English who are teaching through the medium of English)
• Drama Techniques for the English Language Classroom

General English for adults – 22 hours of tuition every week in small groups with a maximum of 10 students per class.

Junior Language Holiday courses – 18 hours of classroom tuition per week with a full social programme.

English Plus courses for adults – language practice + cultural excursions.

IPC is accredited by the British Council for teaching English as a Foreign Language and, in 2003, was awarded points of excellence for teachers’ qualifications, aspects of teaching and welfare. It is also a member of ARELS.

Our programmes ensure that each participant is actively involved in using language in real situations. All our students enjoy free internet access and use of the self-study centre before and after lessons. Our courses continue into the world outside where learners are involved in set tasks or activities to maximise language practice.
